current loves.

Having summers off is amazing; I get time to play with my daughter, my friends, read books, and tackle the to-do list that adds up over the school year.  Here are some things I’ve been working on or creating lately that I’m in love with.  I’ve always liked our house, but recently I’ve started loving it.  Ahhh, love.

I’ve been buying odds and ends for our bedroom remodel since Christmas, but finally painted and put everything together.  I’m not a big fan of headboards, but I bought these wall hangings at the annual rummage sale at a local Catholic church for $1.50 each and spray painted them white.  I love that they make the bed look put-together without the bulkiness of a headboard.
I rescued this antique chair from my mom’s garage sale about three years ago and it’s been stored in the basement ever since.  We don’t have much room in our bedroom, but I like that it’s small and fits nicely.  And Chris has already been sitting on it, so it’s functional too!
I love the antiqued white of these pieces; the two on the left are candleholders I bought at HomeGoods ($10 for the pair), but I’m most proud of the old column topper on the left.  I scored that at a garage sale for $1 and lovelovelove it.
Current Obsession: old handkerchiefs, the older the better.
I have been hunting for the perfect computer armoire for months.  I scoured flea markets, antique shops, CraigsList, garage sales, you name it, I looked there.  I even drove to the other side of town to look at one I found on CraigsList but was afraid to get out, so I abandoned all hope.  Then two days later, my mom found this piece on CraigsList and it was located five minutes from her house! It fits perfectly in the hallway, holds all my computer stuff, and has lots of fun places to decorate.  The greatest part?  It was only $125…and my mom delivered it!
I have a small, eat-in kitchen with big kitchen dreams.  One day I’ll own a long, farmhouse-style table with beautiful mismatched chairs overflowing with friends.  But for now, I just fantasize.  I always need more storage so I moved this unused dresser from basement storage up.  And the rocking chair is Elliott’s, I got it at a garage sale for $3 and she loves to sit on it while I’m making dinner.
Also, a current obsession?  Antique salt and pepper shakers.  I got these at the same garage sale as the rocker for only $2.
I picked this up at HomeGoods a couple weeks ago.  I’m always looking for cute things to hang on our front and side door that don’t look too Home Interiors.  Elliott loves birds right now and I love anything that looks old.  I still haven’t put a picture in it yet, but we’re having family photos taken this week, so I’m sure I’ll have something to put in it soon.
Pots!  It seems like I’ve been spending a huge amount of time working on the inside of the house when the outside needs it the most.  We’ve got dirt everywhere and lots of stuff to plant.  I’ll get to it eventually, but I did pick up these awesome pots at some garage sales.  I had Chris drill some holes in the bottom of the tin one.  The clay ones are all really nice, big, heavy ones and I only paid $13 for all four!
Up next?  Making this table look antique.  I bought this table three years ago for $35 out of someone’s front yard.  We were just moving into our new house and I needed a bigger kitchen table.  I painted it dark chocolate and it’s been in the kitchen ever since.  I would now like it to look a little more worn so I’m going to start sanding it down…we’ll see how it turns out!
Wow, so apparently, I love lots of things.  This summer has been amazing for a number of reasons, but one is that I feel after three years, this house is becoming our home.  We want to raise our kids here, we want to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries here.  I want to be here.  And that’s a new feeling for me; I’m always looking ahead to the next thing and suddenly there’s a comfort in knowing this is it.
