Last Thursday was our last day of AT&T U-Verse.
Gasp.
We got rid of it for many reasons: we watch too much TV, they kept raising our rates, it was really a perk that I didn’t want to make room in the budget for anymore now that Chris will not be working in August, we’d like to use the money to stay on track with getting rid of all our debt…the list could go on.
So we did it, Thursday at midnight they turned our U-Verse off. It actually made me really anxious. I love HGTV and the Food Network. I love our DVR and fast forwarding through commercials. I love trash like “The Real Housewives of Orange County” and “Gene Simmons Family Jewels”. And Chris could literally watch ESPN all day.
So it was painful calling to cancel it, and, as the day got closer, I was thinking we might have made the wrong decision. But I stayed strong.
And then it was gone.
We reasoned that we’ve got NetFlix and we’ll watch shows on Hulu. We’re going to get converters for our TVs (we’re down to two TVs from the four we had in January) and we’ll watch network TV–it can’t be that bad, can it?
Let’s hope.
But here’s one expected positive from no cable: yesterday Chris got “bored” and finally installed the transition piece in between the living room and the kitchen.
Not too big of a deal, right?
Right.
Except for the fact that we finished putting in the “new” kitchen tile three years ago. And we’re had that transition piece sitting in the basement for 2 1/2 years. And I was told he needed a “special” tool that we needed to buy to put it in. But this morning, magically, he was able to do it without said tool. Tricky.
So I’m hoping this no-cable thing will had added benefits that I wasn’t counting on. Because our house is full of half done projects and almost-finished updates. Like the quarter round for the kitchen floor. And then I can finally paint the rest of the kitchen.
I’ve also been thinking a lot recently about the woodwork and the wood doors in our 1950’s house. And how I could update them. And looking at the picture above makes them seem really beat up.
I’m sure Chris will get right on it…
