{pre}school house rock

My little baby is a preschooler.  {tear}

Her first day was over fall break so I got to be a part of the big adventure.  It was quite tramatic for Mommy, but no one else seemed to care.  Brats.
The morning started off by dropping the dog off at the groomer because he was beyond stinky.  I ran the dog in and as the groomer held him and I walked away, he rested his head on her shoulder and started whimpering for me.  It broke my little heart.
We then headed down the street to Elliott’s school (a Lutheran church in town; the groomer is also in town–we like to support the local economy…and not drive far for anything).  Elliott could not stop talking about “going to school” and the playground that she was going to play on.  And, being a super-student before even starting school, Ellie brushed up on her counting on the way.

  Here we go!

We got there early because I needed to finish up some enrollment paperwork so Ellie got free rein of all the toys before the other kids got there.  Kid heaven.
I finished all the forms and Harper and Chris were in the hall starting to make a lot of noise (mostly Harper, but Chris was a little loud also…) so it was time for us to go.  I thought this was going to be tramatic or, at the least, a lengthy process.
Uh, no.
We told her we were leaving and SHE DIDN’T EVEN LOOK UP FROM HER TOYS.  She said, “Okay, bye,” and kept playing. Rude.  After all I’ve done for her?  rude.ungrateful.and.rude.
At least my dog was sad when I left him. He always has been my favorite.

After we left the room, Chris and I just stood in the hallway for a minute, because apparently my two-and-a-half year old daughter was more prepared for preschool then we (mostly, I) were.
So we went home to a silent house (one kid makes a whole lot less noise than two, shocking, I know) and stared at a wall, bored out of our minds until it was time to pick her up. We were the first parents there for pick-up also. Overachievers.

Then we headed to our favorite Mexican restaurant (El Meson, holla!) for lunch and to discuss the big day.  She wasn’t too in to talking about what she did (I wasn’t expecting the what-did-you-do-at-school-“nothing”-response for a few more years).
She did tell us that she learned about “Moses and the walls fell down.”  This was in reference to the weekly Bible lesson.  Later on, when I looked in her folder, I saw the story was about Joshua and the walls of Jericho.  I’m not sure where Moses comes in…those Lutherans are a crazy bunch.
(Side note: this week’s lesson was about Samson.  Elliott told us that the story was about “don’t cut your hair, I said.”  So she got that summary much closer than the one last week.  She’s already improving!)
School is going well for her.  At this point, we’re more concerned with her just being around other kids and having social time as opposed to actually learning anything.  But if she learns the rest of her letters and to count to more than 15, that’s just an added bonus.

Although, that kid knows her letters like nobody’s business.  And her favorite past time while driving is shouting out letters that she sees.  Which used to be cute.  Now, I think she’s just showing off.
