the light is always on.

I really do get too geeked up about home improvement.

We special ordered some lights from Menards (or Benards, as Ellie calls it) and they finally came in so Chris got down to the business of installing them.  Which always makes me a little nervous.  Not because I doubt his electrical skills (okay, maybe just a little), but mostly because our house was built in the 50s.  It’s old.  Something could go wrong.  But Chris assures me that he only does projects he knows he can handle.  For everything else, we call an electrician (which is true, we do sometimes call a professional) so I try to relax and trust him.  Lots of deep breaths are involved.

The old lights were, um, what’s the word?  Oh yes, ugly.  This is the one from the front porch.
The one by the side door was a little newer, but not much.  Needless to say, they were bringing down the house.  And I like a happy house, remember?
Here are the new ones, all shiny and uplifting.  Joyous, if you will.  And they work perfectly.  I had no doubts Chris could do it, none at all.
It’s hard to tell in the pictures, but they’re a coppery brown finish and the glass is bubbled slightly.  They remind me of lanterns and look updated but not modern.  Picking out these lights ended up being more difficult than I anticipated.  If I found something I thought would work, Chris disagreed.  And if Chris found one he liked, I hated it.  In the end, we could only agree on the special order, expensive ones (of course) and finally just gave in and ordered them.  Now seeing them on the house, I’m glad we got them.  I think they goes well with the newly-painted brown shutters.

I just wish it didn’t get cold recently. We were on such a nice little outside-home-improvement-roll that I hate to take a break for winter.  But I’m sure my bank account is thankful for the season change.  He needed a little reprieve.
