weekend read: Where She Went

Where She Went

The sequel to If I Stay by Gayle Forman is Where She Went.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book.  I finished If I Stay on a Friday afternoon, googled the sequel that just came out last month to read as many excerpts that I could find online, and then dragged my kids to Barnes and Noble first thing Saturday morning to buy Where She Went. (In hardback.  I hate hardback books and normally refuse to buy them, but I didn’t have a choice.)

I couldn’t believe how the first one ended and needed to know what happened next.  Immediately.

The bad news is I can’t share much of the story because I don’t want you to know how the first one ends.  But the narrator in this one is the boyfriend, Adam, and his point of view is just as good as when it was Mia’s.  Just as real, just as painful, and just as perfect.

I neglected my children all day that Saturday I bought the book and finished it that night.  Once again, Forman leads you one way and you hate it, and then at the last second, she redeems herself, the characters, and the story.  I kept hoping the twist was coming like it did in the first one, but I didn’t know for sure and it was that unknown that drove me away from my duties and onto the couch with the book.

Luckily, the laundry and grocery shopping were there the next day when I finally had time for them.  It was nice that they waited for me. Bless their little hearts.

If you haven’t had a chance to read If I Stay yet, do it.  And then have Where She Went ready because you won’t be able to stop until you know the whole story.
