Where to start…
I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a book this much in a long time. It’s freakin’ hilarious but also at times touching and sad. Let’s Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson (aka: The Bloggess) is everything I want to be as a writer.
Mostly just really funny, perhaps with a little less of the F-word. Don’t get me wrong, there are times and places where that word is necessary. And a lot of the things that happen to Lawson are worthy of the F-bomb. She’s had a pretty odd life.
I loved following along on her adventure. And I love the realizations she makes along the way. And the peace.
There were multiple times I’d have to stop reading, reread something and then go find Chris so I could read it to him. It was that funny. And then Chris would laugh too and we’d be happily married people thanks to Lawson.
One of the stories I had to share with Chris involved laxatives, a rapist, and a cat. No really, it’s a story. You should probably just get the book and read it for yourself because I’m not going to be able to convince you here how wonderful it all is.
P.S. I was searching for a picture of the book and read a review that compared her to Tina Fey and David Sedaris. As professed before, I love both of them in an unhealthy way, so it’s no wonder I became obsessed with Lawson also.
P.S.S. The review also described her as an internet star. Which sounds dirty.
P.S.S.S. I know this is the second weekend read today. I don’t expect you to read both books this weekend. I would like you to get out and live a little also. It’s just that I’ve been reading a lot recently and need to start doubling up on the book reviews because I’ve got them written to the middle of July right now if I didn’t. This is the last P.S. I promise.
P.S.S.S.S. Just kidding.
