I’m going to go ahead and say it: I’m not a big fan of “magical” books. For me, make believe things (vampires, zombies, etc.) and super powers do not make a great book so I was hesitant to read Savvy by Ingrid Law. I’d also heard from a couple teacher friends that they liked it. And I’ve had some students enjoy it (and the rest of the series). So I bought it at a late spring book fair and just got around to reading it.

Savvy is a good sci-fi read for middle level readers. I can see using this book as a possible read-aloud this year. But I’m not sure I care to read the next book for myself. It just didn’t capture my attention like some YA books do. I think this will be a popular read for my 7th graders and I might end up reading the next book, Scumble, because of them, but I’m in no hurry to do it right now.
