The story: I started back to school last week and decided to choose all my outfits for the first week with August’s InStyle magazine for inspiration. Using pieces I already had in my closet, I put together five outfits. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone for some of them, while others feel like they’ve always been in my wardrobe. (Days one, two, and three here.)
The inspiration: August 2012 InStyle magazine, page 12. The graphic shift.
When I planned out my week’s outfits, here’s what I was going to wear:
Graphic print dress and a sweater, very true to the magazine’s suggestion. And I will probably wear that outfit at some point, but the end of last week in Indiana got really hot. The day I was supposed to wear this, it reached almost 100 degrees so I chickened out. Because no matter how cold my classroom is, it wasn’t worth it. Here’s what I ended up wearing:
(pants: Target, shirt: Sears, sandals: Target, earrings: old)
I went from a graphic print dress to a geometric print top. Probably my loosest interpretation of the week, but still outside of my comfort zone. Plus, this shirt is almost sleeveless and I think sleeveless at work is unprofessional. I tried a sweater with it, but the fuller shoulder area made me look too bulky.
The verdict: I loved it. Loved it that my shirt came from Sears (where I never shop) and it only cost $12. Loved it that my pants are from the junior’s section and I haven’t worn pants from that department in years. This outfit and my hair made me feel very young and sassy. Not a bit of the thirty years I really am. Definite win.
I looked through all your looks and it was fantastic. You looked great. Visiting from the hop.
