The story: I started back to school last week and decided to choose all my outfits for the first week with August’s InStyle magazine for inspiration. Using pieces I already had in my closet, I put together five outfits. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone for some of them, while others feel like they’ve always been in my wardrobe. (confession: I wore this look this week, not the first week of school.) (Days one, two, three, and four here.)
The inspiration: August 2012 InStyle magazine, page 12. The graphic shift. (I tried this on day four but didn’t follow through so I’m doing it right on day five.)
My take:
(dress: Target, belt: Kohls, earrings: Sears, bangles: various, sandals: Target)
Can I just point out how ridiculous my face looks in that last picture? Geez.
Things I learned while sitting on my neighbor’s porch recently: 1.) How to do that twist in my hair pictured above. I will be using it often from here on out. 2.) That some of our neighbors are swingers. Like big-time swingers. As in very popular. 3.) Another neighbor’s wife is a mail-order bride from Colombia. For real. All on our block. People I wave at daily and occasionally talk to. I’m still trying to recover from these revelations. Dear lord.
My verdict: This outfit is pretty simple. A dress and a belt, done. But the print is a little out there for me and I wasn’t too sure about buying it and then I realized it was on sale. So, obviously, I bought it. I’m not sure I’ll transition this dress into fall with a sweater layered on top, but we’ll see. Stranger things have happened.
Very pretty!

Love your hair! The belt definitely helped the dress. Super cute outfit.

Come on over and follow along Color Issue…I think you’d really enjoy it (but than again I might be a bit bias?!) ha.
I love the Color Issue! I follow you already and agree, it is very enjoyable. 🙂
So, the twist bun…LOVELY. Mine is like that I as I type just without the side swoop…the outfit…DARLING…LOVE it…and the print on you is PERFECT…now for the real deal…what in the SAM HILL are we gonna do about this swingers situation…you may have to stop waving before folks starting the wrong idea…LOL!!
Exactly! What if waving is a secret sign for swingers and I just asked to join their club??? You’re the first to say anything about that and I thought that was much more important than what I’m wearing. Priorities people! 🙂
love this! how perfect! and great style!
