I’m not going to lie, this trend just calls to me. As much as I want to wear cute clothes, there’s a very large part of me that is just lazy. And wearing a t-shirt with something fancy just seems like lazy chic. Almost a little rebellious and that’s right up my alley.
I picked up this snazzy t-shirt at The Influence Conference–it’s the perfect gray and extra-long which is perfect for tall peeps like myself.
Originally, I was going to wear this shirt tucked into a pencil skirt with some wedges and a green blazer, but I overslept this morning and there was no time for a leg-shave. But there was definitely a need, so I switched to cropped pants. (Random side note: I get all my outfits ready on Sunday before the work week starts. I’m pretty good at running late most mornings and I’ve learned that I’m a much better dresser when I spend ten minutes on Sunday afternoon pulling looks together as opposed to in the dark at 6:15 in the morning.)
I’ve done the t-shirt and pencil skirt thing before and really liked the outcome. It’s magical what a good statement necklace does for a plain shirt.
What’s great about this trend is you don’t have to go out and buy anything to try it. Everyone has a t-shirt or two that will work (I really like the look of a vintage band shirt, a plain white one, or a vintage baseball shirt–that would be great with a pencil skirt). Depending on what you’re comfortable with, you can tuck it in or leave it out. My pencil skirt was good for tucking, but those pink cropped pants were too high cut for my liking, so I left the shirt untucked. Do what looks best for you, your body type, and the type of pants/skirt you’re wearing.
What do you think? Have you tried or want to try the dressed-up t-shirt trend? How about those braids I’m sporting? I can’t figure out if I like them or I look like an eight-year-old girl. So, I’m not sure if I’ll do those again. What’s your vote? (be kind, I’m fragile…)
I love the t-shirt with dressed up look right now! Loving this outfit! 🙂
