(skirt: Target, sweater & t-shirt: Old Navy, tights & booties: Kohls)
I don’t look in the mirror before I leave in the morning.
I’m not allowed.
Oh, sure, I get ready in front of a mirror so I can see my hair and makeup just fine. But anything below the belly button is pretty much off limits.
The only full-length mirror we have is in our bedroom where my husband is, more often than not, slumbering away peacefully. So turning the light on for a quick full-body shot is out of the question.
Occasionally this has backfired.
In my head an outfit will look one way and then on, it takes on a whole other look.
This would be one of those outfits. If I had gotten even a glance at myself, I’d have known I needed some jewelry–any jewelry–on. And that this skirt is officially too big and looks more school marm than fashionable at this point.
Instagram friends suggested I get it taken in, but it’s a clearance skirt from Target and I think I’d pay a tailor more than I paid for the skirt. Plus, part of the fun of losing weight is buying new clothes.
So I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it right now.
Except not wear it again, because it is very unflattering.
What do you think? Do you use a tailor often? I’ve had some pants hemmed once or twice, but it’s not something I do often. Am I missing out??
I have seen FAR worse, don’t be so hard on yourself!
I use tailors for nicer pieces, especially to hem jeans which I get extra long because I am in the middle between normal and tall so tall jeans don’t fit me and normal are high waters.
Right at the first pic I thought to myself you need a statement necklace! So, I’m glad you said it, too. If you like the skirt, get it taken in. It doesn’t matter that you might pay more for the tailoring than the skirt itself. The total my be the same as if you paid regular price anyway, and if you like the skirt, then it’s worth it.
If it’s an item in your wardrobe that you adore (regardless of how much you paid for it to begin with), then a tailor is totally worth it! But if it’s an item you could live without, then the extra money would definitely be better spent buying something new.
I love the color of your sweater! And congrats on your weight loss. It’s always nice to have something that’s too big.
I don’t tailor, because all my clothes are super-cheap, so I don’t feel like it’s worth it. If I had something really nice that I loved, I would do it. I guess it depends on how much you love the skirt.
