weekend read: Sharp Objects

Did you read Gone Girl yet?

Because I feel like that book was just a warm up, just the beginning of the madness that Gillian Flynn can do.

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn is the first book she wrote and I can not believe how warped it is. It’s a pyscological thriller where the main character is just as messed up as the killer she’s investigating. Guys, this book is so messed up.
The story starts as Camille gets assigned a story her editor hopes will soon be big: two small town murders of little girls. Things are still unsolved and the town is on edge. So Camille heads to Wind Gap, the town she grew up in and where her family still resides, to cover the story. It’s the last place she wants to be.

The characters are beautifully written and so unbelievable all at the same time. As we learn about Camille’s past life and the reasons she hasn’t been home in over eight years, you start to realize nothing is as it seems. It’s so much worse.

The girls’ murders seem to go unsolved and they were gruesome: no sexual trauma, but all their teeth were pulled out after they were dead. And all clues point to someone local, someone everyone knows.

Sharp Objects ends just as abruptly as it started. If left me reeling from shock and disgust. It was addicting and sick and so good. Flynn has a crazy, gruesome imagination and is an amazing storyteller. You need to read this one. Whether you’ve read the immensely popular Gone Girl or not, this will be an in-your-face introduction to Flynn and you will be hooked. I promise.
