The big day finally arrived and it was time for Ellie’s princess tea party! She had been counting down the days since party invitations went out weeks ago after we had decided on a princess tea party theme. That decision set into motion lots of trips to the thrift store (no complaints here…) and a special surprise princess appearance that blew her socks off.
I picked up serving trays, linens, candles, candle holders, plates, and cups from local thrift stores to make the tea party “official.” In Ellie’s world, there is nothing more special than drinking sweet tea out of real glass. It’s the fanciest thing ever, so I picked up a bunch of fifty cent tea cups so her guests could drink tea (or lemonade) in high style. They also munched on cookies, candy, and veggies until it was time for the special guest to arrive.
We hired Glittery Slippers from Enchanted Princess Party, a local company that specializes in “princess parties for the princess in all of us.” Ellie had no idea this was happening and the look of complete and utter shock when she rounded the corner and saw this princess in her beautiful dress could not have been better. She was frozen in place until the princess introduced herself and told her happy birthday.
We went with the Enchanting 45-minute package and it was perfect. Glittery Slippers played music and danced with the girls, played games, read them a princess story, taught them how to bow, curtsy and princess wave, as well as let them ask all kinds of silly questions about being a princess.
I was really impressed with how easily Glittery Slippers stayed in character, how patient she was with kids that were beside-themselves-excited to talk to her, and how well she kept everyone focused. She was good at redirecting random toddler outbursts, too. My sister said she must have been an elementary school teacher in her other life.
We even had one knight-in-shining-armor at the party and Glittery Slippers made sure to talk about knights and kings so he felt included. Our knight did a good job of protecting all the princesses. Plus, I think he kinda liked being the only guy in the room with a shield and sword.
As a parent, I loved having Glittery Slippers commanding everyone’s attention for 45 minutes. It gave me a moment to sit down, talk to our adult guests, and grab a bite to eat. The kids were enthralled with the princess and the adults were enthralled with watching all the little princesses so it really was a lot of fun. I highly recommend Enchanted Princess Party if you’re local to Indy. They have lots of princesses to choose from and there are other party options too, if princesses aren’t your thing (like rockstar parties!).
After Glittery Slippers made her exit, we chowed down to princess cupcakes and more candy, while enjoying sweet tea with our pinkies in the air.
And then the absolute chaos of twelve little girls crowded around the birthday girl to check out all her cool new stuff. Ellie had such a great time, she told me that having the princess at her party (who came all the way from Disney World, according to her) was “the best day ever.”
I’d say that’s a pretty successful birthday party.
