This is it. It’s finally time for my race.
I’ve been training for this half-marathon for SEVENTEEN weeks. That’s ridiculous to think about. I took a twelve week program and stretched it out to seventeen, giving myself a little extra wiggle room and grace. I don’t regret a minute of it.
And now it’s time: on Saturday morning, I’ll be running 13.1 miles with 35,000 of my closest friends from around the world. Indianapolis puts on a pretty great show for the Mini-Marathon. The route is full of music, bands, cheering fans, and a million other distractions that help you forget that you’re in the middle of a really long run. At this point, I’m nothing but excited and anxious. I’m sure tomorrow night I will be full of nervousness and a little dread.
While I’ve been cheered on by the greatest support system there ever was, I’ve also been running with the help of McDonald’s of Central Indiana. They’ve been encouraging this journey from the beginning, sponsoring my registration, promoting this healthy journey I’m on, and outfitting me for the race. I’m super-proud to be running with McDonald’s behind me. And because McDonald’s wants to encourage you to take steps to a healthier lifestyle, they’re giving away a pretty awesome prize package to one reader. Enter using the Rafflecopter below!
I went for less runs in April, so I ran less than I did in March (for a total of 37 miles last month). I did more sprints and long runs, obviously tapering down this week as I prepare for Saturday. I’m looking forward to cutting back after this weekend. I’d like to do 3-4 miles a few times a week and then a longer 5-6 mile run on the weekends to keep moving and losing weight, but I have no desire to keep up the pace I’ve done recently. It’s so time consuming to train. But I’m sure this won’t be my last half marathon. I can already tell you that.
So if you wake up late Saturday morning and you’re lounging around in your pajamas, reading the paper, and enjoying a nice cup of coffee, take a minute to say a little prayer for me, will you? That I’m staying positive and trying to enjoy myself? Because that’s my ultimate goal. Not just for running, but for life. Happy running!
Super EXCITED!! 🙂
So exciting
Good luck! I’m hoping to add some yoga back into my workouts!
Good luck!!! This summer I want to try to get back down to 1 cup of coffee a day. The long cold winter has me up to 2-3 cups a day.
I need to up my water intake for sure!
I’ll see you out there Saturday! Well, probably not, but I’ll be there somewhere amongst all your other 35,000 friends!
I’m saying a prayer for you right now, and will be thinking of you Saturday morning! Go girl!!!
I want to get back to me time and my running schedule. I want to do back-to-back halves in October and November.
I want to keep up with the running that I have just gotten back into and load up on veggies and fruit 🙂
I am trying to get rid of more processed foods and making exercise a part of my life!
So proud of you for your journey you have been on. Hope your day was a success and you had a fantastic run!
More fruit!!!!!!!!
