You’ve heard of this one before, right? Love Does by Bob Goff? It’s been knocking people’s socks off for a few years and I finally sat down to read it since it’s summer and there’s time and I needed to find out why everyone loves it so much.
Now I’ve finished it, and I get it. I’ll try to explain it, but I’m going to start off by saying you should probably just read it. I know I’m not going to do it justice.
In Love Does, Bob Goff shares his life experiences and how he sees God in them. He introduces us to people that seem ordinary and shows us the extraordinary way they’re living and loving like Jesus. Goff tells us about his life and Jesus’ life and how he sees the two intersect and make him better, make him want to live more like Jesus. And not in a snotty, I’m-a-great-Christian way, but in a way that says here’s what I’m learning about this great God we serve, maybe you feel the same way.
I think this book would be a great introduction to people that want to know about Jesus but don’t want to be a Christian. Or for people that were Jesus-followers and then got burnt out because religion and rules and people got in the way. We all know someone like that. Maybe we are that someone. I know I feel that way sometimes, like this whole Jesus thing is pretty great and then people that claim to love Jesus go and mess it all up. I’m reminded often why Christians have such a bad rap.
Love Does by Bob Goff could change that. If more of us lived like Goff (me included) and tried to imitate Jesus, maybe this wonderful life that God invites us to have with Him would be more magical, more fulfilling, and more like a mirror of Jesus. You know, more like it’s supposed to be.
