weekend read: The Antelope in the Living Room

Because I’m always the last to know things, I had never heard of Melanie Shankle, the Big Mama blog, or her first book Sparkly Green Earrings until recently. But now that I’ve read The Antelope in the Living Room, I’ve become a big fan of her writing style and can’t wait to read more from her.

The Antelope in the Living Room by Melanie Shankle

The Antelope in the Living Room: The Real Story of Two People Sharing One Life is a collection of short stories that beautifully illustrates the relationships that Melanie and her husband have. I just love hearing other people’s marriage stories: how they met, what their struggles are, the lessons they’re teaching each other, how their household runs. Those things are intriguing to me and this book was a great glimpse into their lives as a married couple. Of course, it’s completely one sided which is something I think about a lot as I tell my marriage story. I think about what Chris would say and what his perspective on things would be. Actually, I know he would probably just shrug his shoulders and tell me whatever I think is best, which is why our marriage is so great and perfect. And why he doesn’t have a blog.

Obviously.

Oh yes, The Antelope in the Living Room: it’s good. I laughed out loud multiple times and found myself shaking my head in agreement often. I feel like if you’re a frequent reader of this blog (hi! I love you!), you’d really like this book. She’s a much better writer than me and much funnier. You’d probably love her a lot more than me so you have to promise to come back to Trusty Chucks after you read her book. Because I would totally know if you didn’t come back. I’m serious.

I am currently reading this book and loving it! Laugh out loud funny. My poor husband keeps having to listen to me retell passages of the book.

I loved this book! Did you read Sparkly Green Earrings, too? Goodness I laughed so hard at both.

I haven’t but I need to buy it soon! If it’s anything like this one, I’m sure I’ll love it. It just made me happy to read this. 🙂
