Every once in a while I like to read some adult non-fiction. Not very often though because young adult lit seems to really do it for me, BUT I do need to up my game now and then.
You know, like a real grown up.
When I picked up this book, I was a little hesitant because I don’t really have fashion-industry goals or big plans to own a company one day. My goals are more along the self-employed and freelance line, but there was so much encouraging and applicable advice no matter what your ambitions that I quickly lost sight of this book not “fitting me.” Her writing style, her attitude, and her sense of humor are right up my alley and even when she is sharing something very specific to her line of work, I could still learn from it.
Not to sound cliched but I love this sudden burst of girl-power non-fiction recently. Maybe it’s not a true change in publishing and I’m just more aware of it at the moment, but letting myself dream of a career outside of the walls of my classroom and dream big dreams for my daughters has piqued my interest in this genre. I love a good girl-power success story. But only if the success was done on your own terms and you did it your way, whatever that is. That’s the stuff that gets me going.
And #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amorusa does that. A quick, fun, inspiring, powerful book for females. That’s something I can get behind.
