Next month we head to Michigan for a glorious week of vacation. We’re staying at a ski resort that offers about a million summer, off-peak, outdoor activities for us to do. We’re going to spend our time biking, hiking, running, playing tennis, swimming, zip-lining, and so much more. Plus, we’re going with one of our best couple friends (is that a thing? Well. It is now.) and we’re going to have so.much.fun.
As we started thinking about what we needed to make the trip, Chris and I realized we both needed new shoes for all the playing we’ll be doing. It’s easy to make sure your kids have new shoes often (seriously, how do their feet grow that fast??), but we seem to forget our own shoe needs in the process. So we remedied that recently with a trip to Famous Footwear. We each picked up a sweet pair of shoes and then the next day, set out on an adventure to break in our new shoes and make sure they’d be able to keep up on our week of vacation.
Verdict: they’ll be able to keep up just fine.
I picked up a pair of Birkenstock sandals perfect for hiking and Chris got his first pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars. I’m not sure what took him so long, but he’s been wearing them non-stop. Okay, not going to lie, I haven’t taken my new sandals off either.
Needless to say, they’ll both be nice and broken-in by the time we head out for vacation. I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures these shoes take us on.

I’m a longtime Birkenstock wearer…I went to IU in the 90s! But my son who just finished 8th grade told me Birks are cool. I guess all the girls at school started wearing them this spring. I’m going to be cool!!! 🙂
Ha, they are cool again! I avoided them for a while because I was in high school when they were popular and just didn’t think I wanted to do it again. But now I can’t stop wearing them! 🙂
