I’m in love.
But it feels like cheating because you know how loyal I am to real books. Good thing my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK is easy to use and a million times lighter (actual scientific fact, of course) than a real book because it is just too convenient not to use.
I carry a book with me wherever I go. This weekend I was at the Influence Conference with really no downtime, but I still felt the need to have a book with me to read because you just never know, right? So I lugged around a book in my purse with a few other things I really didn’t need (like two pairs of Harper’s underpants for instance) and my shoulder wasn’t happy about it. But then I wised up on the second day and switched to the new 8-inch NOOK by Samsung and my shoulder rejoiced.
It’s shockingly lightweight and thin. I didn’t even know it was in my bag.
And that made me love it. It was that simple.
From there, things just got better because of how easy and enjoyable it was for the girls to use. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK has an endless library of books, movies, and TV shows to download and enjoy. One thing I really love about it is that when you download your child’s favorite books or new ones to try, there’s an option to have it read to you and an option to have it record you reading it out loud.
For Harper who can’t yet read, having a book read to her on the Samsung NOOK was fun and exciting. We love reading books to her, but it’s nice to have the read-aloud option when I’m making dinner or helping Ellie with her homework and need to keep Harper occupied.
It’s also great for kids learning to read because Ellie can listen to the story and follow along, read it to herself, and then record herself for practice too. I also love that our overflowing bookshelves are getting a little break as we download new books on the new 8-inch NOOK by Samsung and don’t lose anymore precious shelf space.
We’re taking a road trip in October and I can’t wait to take my Samsung NOOK along with us. We drive through the night and leaving the overhead light on while Chris is driving always seems slightly unsafe so the back lighting that the NOOK has is awesome. Plus, space will be limited in the trunk so knowing I can have lots of books waiting for me without taking up my valuable luggage space is comforting. On vacation in July I went through my books too quickly and I thought we were going to have to come home early because I didn’t have anything to read. Not kidding.
And because I can’t leave Chris Graham out of the mix, he’s loving the TV show and movie options available. We don’t have cable but he has to keep up with shows like Game of Thrones and Walking Dead so it’s nice to be able to download those and watch them on the go.
(Okay, I was trying to sound fancy, really we’re in bed by 8:30 watching the shows while the dog tries to sit on our heads, but “on the go” sounded like I was doing something fun and important and just barely squeezing in our favorite stuff.)
One last thing I love and then you can get moving to order your own: In January I promised to stop hoarding magazines. I cleaned out stacks of them last winter and was ashamed at how many I had, most of them still waiting to be read. On the Samsung NOOK I can download magazines and read them and they don’t gather dust on the nightstand waiting for me to finally read them. It’s glorious.
Of course, you can do other great things like check your email, browse the internet, and because it has Microsoft Office on it, you could do work if you needed to. Um, not that I have time with all the new books I’m downloading and reading, but if that’s your thing, go for it.
Now, obviously, you want one of your own because you are smart and sensible. You can check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK online or stop by your local Barnes & Noble to get your hands on one. Also, I just cleaned so you could stop by my house and look at mine, but there’s a time crunch because by Wednesday the vacuum marks on the carpet will be gone and the bathroom will be covered in Monster High toothpaste again. So hurry.
9/26 Edit: Awesome news! Barnes & Noble wants to give one of you a $20 NOOK gift card so you can start (or add to) your e-library. Great post, Mary! I am a book lugger who also takes one everywhere and even though I have some books loaded on my iPad from iBooks and Kindle, I often still am a sucker for the “feel” of a book in my hands. For me, I see I can enjoy electronic versions if they are not books I want to highlight or write notes in the margin. You do make a great case for using this new device, however, because my book shelves are totally full and I am leaving for a conference in the morning and it is sure to have at least one book I want to buy in the exhibit hall! Once I own a book, I am always reluctant to get rid of it. When I retired last year, I really struggled with sorting through the bookshelves at my office and finding other homes for the many books there.
Once I own a book, I’m reluctant to get rid of it also! So maybe the NOOK will help me with my hoarding tendencies. ๐ ๐
I love that it combines books and the internet (two if my favorite things!)
I love that is has Microsoft Office as well as all the book features. I am usually a book in hand type of girl, but I could be convinced I “need” a Nook. ๐
I love that it can contain all of my books. I just wish that there was a feature that allowed you to smell the books. I’m a book sniffer!
I do like what I see of this new Nook! I have an older model Samsung tablet that works well for me, but the larger screen and thin profile along with the other features are very appealing!
Crazy fast, super light weight.
I really like that I can read all of my favorite magazines on the Nook and save all that paper!
I like that it’s lightweight and lots of my favorite things…books, magazine, movies. I tend to travel with “options” and my bag is always too heavy!!
I like that it will read to my children!
I love having magazines and books all on one device when I travel! I also love fun games and kids books for the little people in my life to enjoy!
I like that it has a multi window feature and secure finger print scanner

I love reading on an ereader and a NOOK is great since it is kid-friendly, lightweight and easy to travel with. Great advice even with some reservations (I still love holding a book)
Hey Kim Anne, congrats! You won the gift card. ๐
I love the fact that I can read several books and magazines with out the weight of actual books. I also like the back light so that I can read at night before bedtime. AND the long lasting battery is super important when all family members are using the same device!
I really love how thin and sleek the profile is (if I’m not going to use a book based on the size/clumsiness, then I really want something light!). Also, I am intrigued by the ability to use Word. So great for editing papers (or specs in any case) on the go or letting my little ones “write” stories.
I love that it is light weight, I carry a lot of books with me everywhere because I love to read as well. Also, I am running out of bookshelf space, this would be convenient ๐
Good to read a review on the Nook! I like that it’s “lightning fast”. I’ll be the judge of that. I’m a super impatient person when it comes to devices.
I love the lightweight feature! I too carry too much (although no underpants).
It’s so cute! Love how thin it is.
While I love actual books too, I loved the convenience of the nook & how I could have it in my purse without thinking about it. That is, until I lost it! Pretty sure I left it in a hotel in St. Louis.
Ultra-thin… I think they are talking about me… Just kidding!! I love the size and how thin it really is. Which means it takes up less space in my bag. Which also means more room for snacks! Win-Win!!!
I like the lightweight feature!
