In Fat Girl Walking
Fat Girl Walking tells the story of growing up bigger than everyone else, a childhood that made her the caretaker for her parents, and the millions of ways she, like so many other young women, devalued herself and tried to find acceptance in all the wrong areas.
Gibbon tells her story in a funny, thoughtful, and entertaining way. Some parts are heartbreaking and tough, but the reader still catches a glimpse of threads of hope running through the stories. Other parts are just awkward and hilarious which is pretty much most people’s lives and so it’s comforting to read.
Watching Gibbons find her place is encouraging and beautiful. Plus, she’s just a fun writer to read. Fat Girl Walking is a must for anyone who needs to hear they’re beautiful and worthy. So basically everyone.
