weekend read: One Plus One

Sitting by the pool this summer was perfect for this book: One Plus One by Jojo Moyes. It was interesting, a little unexpected, and fun to read, a story made for vacation.

In One Plus One, Jess struggles to make her rag tag family unit work after her husband walked out two years ago. Since then she’s worked two jobs to take care of her daughter, Tanzie, and her ex-husband’s son, Nick. When Tanzie gets the chance to attend a prestigious private school because of her math ability, the money is just not there to make it work.

But Jess can’t give up on her daughter’s dream and sets off on a road trip to win the money. Along the way they meet one of Jess’ cleaning clients, Ed, and reluctantly let him help them get to their destination. The road trip has many bumps in the road and a few disappointments, but there is still hope that the end will be successful.

One Plus One by Jojo Moyes is just fun. It would make a great break from non-fiction or too dramatic fiction if you’ve been reading a lot of that recently. You’ll stay up late to see what happens and just love the way Moyes tells a story. (And if you haven’t read Me Before You, DO IT NOW. That book is so good! [here’s my review])

Jojo Moyes is probably my favorite new author. I loved loved loved Honeymoon in Paris, and its companion novella, The Girl You Left Behind.

I haven’t read those! I’ll add them to my list. I imagine I’ll just make my way through all her books because I really enjoy her storytelling.

Did you know that at the end of Sept. she released a sequel to Me Before You? It’s called After You and it is just as amazing as the first book.

I have it waiting to be read on my Nook! I’m glad you say it’s just as good because sometimes I’m afraid to read the sequel when I loved the first book so much. 🙂
