weekend read: The Sky is Everywhere

It’s been a long time since I read a book that kept me up all night. But once I got into The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson, I couldn’t put it down.

Literally, I stayed up until 2:30 AM reading the whole book because I needed to know what happened.

The story starts off sad. Lennie lost her older sister, bright, dynamic, theatrical Bailey, who was only nineteen when she died of an undiagnosed condition in the middle of play practice. Understandably, it throws Lennie into a tailspin because not only were they sisters but best friends. With a missing mom and only a concerned grandma and uncle to help her recover, things aren’t going well.

Add in a guy new to town who seems too good to be true and Bailey’s boyfriend who has his own confused grief to deal with and Lennie is pushed and pulled in a million directions as well as trying to deal with her own loss.

The Sky Is Everywhere by Dandi Nelson is amazing. It’s compelling, engaging, and just a little bit dramatic. There’s romance, loss, laughter, and healing in this absolutely amazing book.

Read her other one too. Love the way she strings her words together.

I just read “I’ll Give You the Sun” a few weeks ago and loved it too–she’s such a great storyteller.
