Every Day by David Levithan is super weird and I’m still not sure if I liked it or not. The story centers on a character named A who wakes up every morning in a new body. He’s sorta like a soul/spirit that can enter your body for only twenty four hours. But he has no control over where he lands and he can’t stay more than one day. A has access to the real soul’s memories and so is pretty good at maintaining the life of whoever he’s visiting.
One day he enters the body of Justin and while inhabiting Justin, A falls in love with Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. And once he does, it changes his rules, his life, and his goals. The only problems is he’s still just a spirit that goes to a new body every day and how is that supposed to allow him to have a relationship? And will Rhiannon even understand who he is?
Every Day by David Levithan is creative and thoughtful, but sometimes hard to imagine. The theme of the book is beautiful, but the story is just so far out there that I couldn’t really love it. I’m much more of a realistic fiction reader, but I can see where others would absolutely love this story.
