weekend read: Bone Gap

I’m not really sure what I read in this one.

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby goes back and forth between reality and a weird make-believe place that you can only get to by wandering aimlessly in a corn field.

Yes, it’s confusing as it sounds.

Bone Gap

It takes a while to get the rhythm of Roza’s imaginary places that hold her captive and Finn’s real life search for her in the small town of Bone Gap, Illinois. This book has, of course, won all kinds of awards even though I’m not sure why. It’s confusing and as a young adult novel, I can’t see kids sticking with it because for so long the reader is lost and things just don’t make sense. I finished it because I was hoping there was some redeeming quality and while the story makes a little more sense near the end, there’s just too much magic and fantasy for my taste.

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby. Not for me, but maybe you? (Probably not, though.)
