I got new running shoes last week and it’s energized my running.
I’ve known I needed new running shoes for a while. I ran all last fall, trained for my first half marathon all spring, ended up running three halfs, and then ran all summer on them too. Those shoes were in bad shape. But I was holding out for my birthday money to get official, big kid running shoes. I went to a running store, got a full evaluation, and then tried on a million pairs until I found the ones that best fit my feet.
It’s like running on air, you guys. I had no idea how bad my shoes were. NO IDEA.
So new shoes coupled with a few new pairs of running leggings has given me the push to get back to logging miles. It’s weird how something silly like that makes me find my motivation again. Oh, and I’m running a 5K this morning and really didn’t want to make a fool out of myself, so that was pushing me the last few weeks too.
A 3.1 mile run isn’t hard, but I don’t want my time to be pathetic because I’ve been lazy recently. Pride is a great motivator for me.
You know what isn’t a great motivator? Running in 20 degree weather. Monday it was 80 outside, today it’s well below freezing. Indiana, get your shit together. Seriously.
So yes, I’m still running. September and October were my slowest months this year, but I feel like that might be my running cycle. Winter, spring, and summer are when I get most of my miles for the year and then fall/early winter are my slow months. That seem to fit our lives and my work schedule best. I got back to the gym this week to do some treadmill running and it felt good. I was kind of excited to be there once I walked in.
Who am I?
