Jean shorts are tricky.
You don’t want them too short because, you know, you’re thirty two years old. But too long and they become weird, jean capris. If you’re going to go with shorts, you have to go all in.
It’s a fine line, really.

Have I mentioned before where the name Trusty Chucks comes from? I think in the five plus years I’ve been writing, I’ve probably never shared it. It’s really not deep or anything, but I’m pretty loyal to my Chuck Taylors and when I was pregnant with my first daughter, my feet got huge (like even bigger than normal…and I have big feet on a “good” day) and swollen so much so that all I could wear were my Converse sneakers. I wore them to teach in every day. I wore them to church. I wore them to walk through the neighborhood. I wore them all the time. Those trusty things got me through the last three months of my pregnancy like a champ.
In addition to the greatest pregnancy shoes ever made, I never travel without some Chuck Taylors. I’m on my third pair right now and that’s saying something because I wear those things until they’re not physically able to be worn anymore. Then they get retired, but never thrown away. That’s against my religion. My Chuck Taylor religion. It’s a thing, look it up.
So that’s it: Trusty Chucks. They’ve been with me through the good and the bad (and the really swollen) and I just can’t give up on them.
But do you wear socks with your chucks? Inquiring minds want to know. I love Chucks, but I feel my that already big feet look bigger in any kind of sneaks. Why don’t they make sneakers that make your feel look skinny?
I never wear socks with my Chucks! ๐ And it did take a while, when I first started wearing them, to get past how big they made my feet look/feel. Now I don’t think they do, but getting used to wearing such skinny and long shoes when you’ve already got giant feet did take some getting used to.
you look stunning! i love your hair cut!! I’m also loyal to my chucks, have been since HS, 20 years ago. i have 8 pair, selecting the days color, based on my mood. shorts are such an issue for me, I don’t feel comfortable wearing them in public but they are so comfortable.
This is the first summer I’ve been comfortable enough to buy and wear shorts…it’s the first summer in 14? 15? years. And you have eight pairs??! I need to up my game, apparently! Ha.
yes you do! I find the best deal on chucks, at kohls plus they have a decent selection ๐
That’s where I got those gray ones! I really want some white ones, so I might just buy them now that you’ve given me permission. At least, that’s what I’ll tell my husband as I buy ANOTHER pair of shoes…I’m sure it will be fine. ๐
my gray ones are my favorite right now, have been for about a year. Just tell him you can never have too many pairs of chucks! happy shopping!!
I loved your blog name from the second I saw it. I desperately want a pair of gray Chuck Taylors but I never bite the bullet. I had an off-brand lookalike a few years ago…I wore them to death and have been wanting the real thing ever since!
Ahh, you should buy some! I got my most-recent pair at Kohls and if you have a coupon, it’s not painful for your bank account at all! Do it! And then send me a picture, of course. ๐
