adventuring in Savannah, part one

We’re home and just starting to recover from all the vacation happenings. Anyone else go on vacation and then need to come home to a vacation from their vacation? Definitely not complaining, though. Savannah in the spring is magical. I’d highly recommend a trip down there (up there?) if you’ve never been.

When we take a trip, we like to fly by the seat of our pants. I did spend a lot of time researching where we should stay, but we didn’t have many set plans for when we arrived. I started a Pinterest board for Savannah but other than that, we were just going to be wild and crazy travelers that went where the wind took us.

Here are some of the places the wind took us:

Forsyth Park (We ended up here a lot; it was one block from our house and where I randomly ran the Publix Savannah Women’s Half and 5k the morning before we headed home.)

Sly’s Sliders & Fries (Try not to eat the whole basket of fries, I dare you.)

Vinnie Van GoGo’s Pizza

River Street (Lots of shops, but more importantly the old cobblestone streets and alleys–dangerous yet beautiful! We also ate world famous sandwiches at Zunzi’s.)

Mabel’s Cupcake Emporium

Blowin’ Smoke Cantina (One of my favorite places we ate.)

Colonial Park Cemetery

Barracuda Bob’s Bar & Grill

Juliette Gordon Low House (The founder of the Girl Scout’s childhood home; Ellie is a Girl Scout so she got a badge for taking the tour and we got a family discount since I was a Girl Scout all the way back in elementary school. #score)

Broughton Street (So many shops, restaurants, and hotels; we ate ice cream at Leopold’s Ice Cream and got decadent popcorn at Savannah Rae’s Gourmet Popcorn.)

Old Savannah Tours (There are three trolley companies that run tours in Savannah; I highly recommend this one, each trolley guide tells his/her own stories of the city, they don’t have scripted tours like the other places. Each time we hopped on a trolley, a different personality greeted us and shared his/her perspective of Savannah. If it was just Chris and I, we would have stayed on the trolleys all day to hear the stories.)

Walking around Savannah, you feel like you’re in a dream or maybe a really great movie. The place is just so beautiful, it’s surreal. Come back tomorrow for more adventuring and check out Instagram for more pictures (it is almost impossible to narrow down eight days of Savannah into 5-7 pictures for a blog post).

It was delicious! The sandwiches were huge, but awesome. I got the one they’re famous for (I forget what it’s called…) and Chris tried some sausage thing. I wish I had one right now. Yum.
