from a magazine, part two

The story: I started back to school this week and decided to choose all my outfits for the first week with August’s InStyle magazine for inspiration.  Using pieces I already had in my closet, I put together five outfits.  I’m stepping out of my comfort zone for some of them, while others feel like they’ve always been in my wardrobe. (see day one here.)

Tuesday’s inspiration: August 2012 InStyle magazine, page 107.  Now and Later, the floral skirt.

My take:
(floral skirt: JC Penney, shirt: Old Navy, necklace: Sears, shoes: JC Penney)
Verdict:  This is something I never would have done on my own.  Never.  A pencil skirt with a tucked in t-shirt, that just sounds ridiculous.  But I loved it.  Everything about this outfit makes me want to run out and buy five more pencil skirts.  The dressed-down feeling of my white t-shirt paired with the fancier floral skirt made me feel work appropriate.  Any other kind of shirt and this would have been too much for my school environment.  All-in-all a win.  I’ll wear this again soon.
P.S. When I first planned this outfit, I had a blue gingham button down with the skirt.  I liked the pattern mixing, but once I put it on, the shirt was too loose.  I just looked sloppy.  So at the last minute I switched to the white tee.  Really glad I did.

I love that outfit! It looks like something I would have dreamed about wearing to work (when I had a “real job”). Usually I just threw on a pair of ugly pants and a sweater. I’m sooo creative.
