on my nightstand for August

I’m not saying I have a book problem, but I might love books more than I should.

I mean, I realllly love books. I also love sharing books with others, whether it’s my kids at school, friends over dinner, or Saturday mornings when I publish my weekend read posts. I just love talking about books. (Insert stereotypical English teacher joke here. It’s okay, I’m fine with it.)

So when I heard about ThriftBooks.com, a great place to buy used books at ridiculously low prices, I knew I had found a new enabler for my book problem. Here’s some of what I’m reading in August thanks to the $14.78 I spent at ThriftBooks.com recently:

Thrift Books orderThrift BooksSeriously...I'm Kidding by Ellen Degeneres

Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern (I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while–even flipping through the pages makes me laugh out loud.)

The Explosive Child by Ross W. Greene, Ph.D (A little professional development read for classroom management and student issues. YAY.)

The Silent Wife by A.S.A Harrison (Someone recommended this on Instagram.)

Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen Degeneres (I love Ellen and when funny women write books.)

Did you catch that I got four books–two of which are hardbacks–for only $14.78? We’ll get back to that craziness in a second, but first, let me tell you about my books list on my phone. Whenever I hear or find a book I want to read, I add it to a handy dandy list I keep on my phone. On any given day, I’ve got 15-20 titles on the list. This works well because I always seem to have a gift card to spend, a few extra dollars burning a hole in my pocket, or a few minutes to browse at the library and I need to know exactly what my plan of attack is. I hate wondering, and I love a purpose, so always having a book list on me helps me make choices I won’t regret later.

My list was also helpful while I browsed the shelves at ThriftBooks.com. It is a used book site, so they might not have every new release you want, but I only had a few of my wish-list books not come up on their site. There is plenty to choose from, and I’d be willing to bet you’ll find something you’ve been wanting to read too. (Seriously, there’s like seven million to choose from.)

All of the books I wanted were marked with DEAL tags so I got them four for $12.00. Then a little extra for tax and that’s it. Any order over $10 is free shipping within the United States and most ship out within 24 hours. I could have paid more to get them quicker, but mine arrived within a week of placing my order which, for the price, was pretty amazing.

The site also gives you an honest review about the shape of the book and you pay according to the condition. I bought books that were slightly beat up because it doesn’t bother me to have a worn (or as I like to say, “well-loved”) book. If you do care about that, they have lots of books that are in like-new condition which you’ll love too.

Okay, so that’s my book list for August, and my new favorite place to buy books. This information can be dangerous in the wrong hands, so be careful who you share it with. We don’t want everyone stealing all the good books away from us.

I have a book list on my phone, too. I’m not in a season of much reading, but I still love books and write down everyone’s recommendations. You know what I found on my list the other day? The name of a blog called “Trusty Chucks.” I guess I can take that one off…since I’ve become a regular reader! 🙂

That’s funny that I made the list! Such an honor. 🙂 And even though you’re not reading much right now, you’ll be stocked and ready with titles when that time comes! Thanks for reading, Laurel.

Love getting book suggestions!! Another similar website is BetterWorldBooks.com, so if you can’t find something you’re looking for on one site, you might check the other!
