one piece, five ways: Peter Pan Collared Shirt

Something new I’m trying: take one new item and wear it at least five different way. In my little brain I imagine this being an occasional series. But I have lots of good ideas that I don’t follow through on so we’ll see what happens.

In the past six months, I’ve had to buy a lot of new clothes as I’ve lost weight (double bonus!) and I really like to get the most bang for my buck so I make sure the piece I’m buying can get a lot of play in my current wardrobe. It makes the buying decision easier. If I can’t come up with at least three different ways to wear it while I’m standing in the store or fitting room, it probably shouldn’t come home with me. (Okay, there are times I do not follow this rule, like when I bought a $7 pair of floral denim skinnies at Target. BUT THEY WERE ONLY SEVEN DOLLARS.)

The Item:
Merona Peter Pan Collar Blouse from Target
Retail Price: $19.99

Merona® Women's Peter Pan Collar Blouse - Assorted Colors

The Outfits:

|| Toughen It Up ||
Could there be anything more girly than a polka dot Peter Pan collared shirt? Adding some gray skinnies, masculine booties, and an army green vest makes this classic piece a little less frou-frou. (side note: this is my favorite look of the five–I’ll be doing this one again soon.)

|| Clean and Classic ||
Tucking the blouse into a black pencil skirt, adding a red heel, and a contrasting animal print belt is perfect for a business meeting or day of presentations.

|| Patterns: Mixed ||
Polka dots and floral? Why not. These two classic pieces put together make it seem less stuffy and formal. It’s also a signal that you’re not talking this Peter Pan collar too serious.

|| Sweet and Innocent ||
Adding a light colored pant and black flats makes this a great look for a casual day at work or brunch with friends.

|| Date Night ||
Throwing on a lightweight cardigan and some wedges takes the work look to evening on the town. This outfit would be perfect for a cool spring night out with friends or your significant other.

What do you think? How would you wear this blouse? Do you have a favorite one?

    I’ve been thinking of doing to the same sort of thing… 1 piece & how I style it different… this top is great!
    I think my faves are date night & mixed patterns! 🙂

    Cool idea for a post!

    I like them all but the second look with the red shoes is my favorite.

    My favorite is the first one – and I fully admit that it is because I am not a fan of the Peter Pan collar, and this one really (as you say) “toughens it up”. I have actually chosen not to purchase shirts that I otherwise loved, because the collar was Peter Pan-esque. But hey! Differences make the world go round, right? : )

    That Peter Pan collar tee is so adorable. I love all of the ways you styled it–especially with those pink jeans! Thank you for linking up with Mix it Mondays!

    I love how different each of these looks are! I love that you made a conscious effort to really think about how you would categorize each look. Obviously that shirt was a good find!
