resolve to be healthy: motivation

resolve to be healthyWhy? Why do you want to be healthier? There’s probably a million answers for that question. Depending on the day, I have a different answers too.

motivation 1

Some days, it’s for my daughters, to be a good role model for them. Some days, it’s to look better in my clothes. Other days, it’s because I want to live a long time. And then other days, it’s so I can see my high school crush one day and look hot.

Like I said, depending on the day, it’s different things. But knowing what motivates you can make all the difference between a successful journey and one that ends a few days after it starts.

Start a mood board or Pinterest board with pictures, quotes, and ideas that inspire you. Find someone to have a healthy competition with. You know what makes me run faster? Knowing a friend from work posted his miles and time from a recent run on Twitter and I ran the same distance as him the day before only faster.

You know what gets me to the gym? New workout clothes. In the beginning, all I needed was a good sports bra (can I get an amen?), but as I’ve made progress, I’ve loved getting new workout clothes because my old ones didn’t fit. I love Old Navy’s athletic line. It’s affordable, cute, and Lulu Lemon enough to make you feel cool without the prices. Right now they’re running a major sale too (some pieces are 40% off), so it’d be a good time to shop. Get a cute top or a pair of pants that make your ass look good. Don’t wear paint-stained clothes or pajamas when you exercise; what you wear on the outside effects your insides and you want others to know you mean business. You want to feel confident especially if you’re doing something new or out of your comfort zone.

I’ve talked before about how much motivation I’ve found on Instagram. Find people that do the things you do (or would like to do). Want to get into CrossFit, become a runner,or jump on the Pure Barre bandwagon? You’re not alone! Find some IG accounts that can spice up your routine or just get your butt off the couch. Normally when I’m on Instagram, I’m not using my time wisely anyway, so seeing what other people are doing gives me the kick in the butt to get going. I’ve also been introduced to new foods, great recipes, and different ways of eating from following others. Find people that you can learn from.

Make sure you’re setting some attainable, short-term goals and rewarding yourself for them. When I finally, after almost two months of being within a few pounds, hit 160, I got new running shoes. I’ve got a gift certificate for an hour massage waiting for me when I hit 155. Maybe you’re making changes and no one is noticing yet. I know that sucks, but you have to be your biggest cheerleader. You have to reward, encourage, and celebrate yourself. It’s your job to be good to yourself so don’t slack off.

I totally agree workout clothes that make you feel good really do make a difference – as does incremental rewards. Keep up the good work!

I’m a big fan of the self-imposed reward system!

68 dollars later, I must say I agree with you regarding the Old Navy athletic wear. I can’t wait for my order to be delivered! I also agree with you regarding the instagram motivation. I love following your account & seeing what you have eaten or the APs you earned at the gym!
