The Hamiltons take Brown County

Last week we ventured down to Brown County for the day to visit Chris’ extended family from Ohio. They had rented a cabin for the week in Nashville for a family vacation and we didn’t want to miss out on the action.

Chris’ mom, Mawmaw, came by on Wednesday to pick up Ellie so she could spend the night, and then Chris, Harper, and I went down Thursday morning to spend the day.

Ellie got to go horseback riding on Thursday morning before we got there–I was definitely envious that my two-year-old daughter got to ride a horse when I’ve never been on one!  How lame is that?

It was an enjoyable day getting to spend time with family that we don’t get to see very often. Even though they’re just a couple hours away in Cincinnati, we don’t get over there as often as we’d like. But maybe as our kids get older and get better at traveling more than five minutes in a car without screaming (Harper!), we’ll go there more.

This was the first time Harper got to meet most of them. And the first time she got to meet Asher. He {loved} her. A lot. He referred to Harper as his baby. Super-presh.

We had lunch at a cute little restaurant, The Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room, which had a beautiful greenhouse/garden area and an old barn full of (overpriced) antiques.  It was a delicious lunch with amazing amounts of fresh fruit–I just don’t think they were quite prepared for all 19 of us.
They had cats running around the property and, of course, my daughter could not leave them alone.
After lunch we went to Brown County State Park for a swim and then had dinner at the cabin.  It was quite a fun and relaxing day.  Sometimes I spend all my time dreaming about all the far-away places I want to visit that I forget what is literally in my backyard.  We can’t wait to go back.
