weekend read: Conjured

Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst is a book I’m glad I read because it pushed me out of my normal routine of hopeless young love and dystopian literature. Even though I fought the first one hundred pages pretty hard, I’m glad I stuck with it.

Conjured focuses on Eve, a teenage girl that wakes up with no memories of the past and a sneaking suspicion that she isn’t being told the whole truth about who she is or where she has been. All she knows now is that there is a serial killer on the loose and she might be the key to stopping him.

Except he might not be from this world and she might not be either. And now Eve is meeting people that have magical powers and she’s learning that she too has some amazing gifts. When all this feels too much one thing that keeps her grounded and safe is her budding relationship with Zach who works with her at the local library. When things finally start coming back to Eve, the flashbacks and the memories are too much and she doesn’t know who to trust. Who is really on her side? Who is telling her the truth?

This book is full of magic and fantasy, things I’m not usually a fan of, but it was also real enough to keep me intrigued and engaged. And we all know I’m a sucker for a love story so that helped too. Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst, have you read it? Have you read any of her other books before? I’m definitely curious about what else she has written.
