Jandy Nelson knows how to write engaging young adult fiction.
She did it with The Sky is Everywhere and she does it with I’ll Give You the Sun too. I hate to compare her to John Green because she is definitely her own writer, but the way she writes authentic dialogue and real-life teenager conflict and drama is just as great as Green.
I’ll Give You the Sun is about twins Jude and Noah. They are different but inseparable until secrets they swore they’d never keep from each other tear apart their relationship. Now they’re in high school and existing in the same house, but not in each other’s lives. Their descent into silence is heartbreaking. Both don’t realize the other person is holding in damage and sacrifice.
And the end–how Nelson weaves it all together–is just brilliant. I loved I’ll Give You the Sun. It’s a YA book that adults and kids alike will love. (Have you read this one? It’s super-popular right now and I’d love to know what you thought about it!)
I loved this one too. I thought it was beautifully written and I really cared about the characters.
So beautifully written–I want to be her when I grow up. 🙂
Loved this one too. When is she going to write another?! Really love how she writes. Glad you liked it too! Did you read Sloane’s Counting by 7s?
I want more from her too! I have read Counting by 7s–I LOVE THAT BOOK. I even used it as a read aloud for a class once. That books just breaks my heart and makes me happy at the same time.
