weekend read: Inexcusable

A young adult novel about date rape from the rapist’s point of view.

What’s not to like?

Ugh. I just couldn’t. I get what the author was trying to do and I’m sure some people found this book groundbreaking and a great conversation starter. But for me, Inexcusable by Chris Lynch was just too much.

Too much denial, too much privilege, too much ignorance. And even as we get to know the main character and all his flaws/struggles (never held accountable, alcoholic, dead mother), I just can’t feel sorry for him or sympathize with him.

I get the point of Inexcusable by Chris Lynch and applaud the effort. But I just couldn’t stomach it. It was just too much.
