Sometimes you come across an author who just resonates with you on so many levels. For me that author is Melanie Shankle of the Big Mama Blog. I read and loved The Antelope in the Living Room (my review here) and still need to buy Sparkly Green Earrings
.
I feel like I need to email her and tell her we should be best friends but something tells me that won’t end well and she might think I’m weird. Even though all my best friends are total weirdos. Weirdos are my people.
So I read her latest book, Nobody’s Cuter than You, and loved every minute of it. I’ve also decided that it’s what I’m getting all my First Thursday girls for our Christmas favorite things party (I doubt they read these book reviews so I’m safely spilling the beans, I think). It’s just perfect in so many ways and it expresses so well how much a good friendship can change your life.
Nobody’s Cuter than You focuses mainly on Shankle and her best friend, Gulley, but has other good friends thrown in the mix for fun. She articulates beautifully how fulfilling a healthy, real friendship can be and why we need someone beside our husband as our best friend. Sure, husbands are great, but girl friends? They’re a whole other level of awesome.
I want you to read this book. I think you’ll enjoy it so much. You’ll laugh a lot and shake your head in agreement more often than you have with any other book. Read this one soon and then come and tell me what you think. I’d love to talk about Nobody’s Cuter than You by Melanie Shankle with you.
Can’t wait to read this book. I know already I like her. Mary,, love these photos in this piece too. Love you blog and how you cherish friends.
Thanks, Michele! I know you’ll like her too. 🙂
Yes, your First Thursday Girls do read your book reviews! I’m always looking for good ones based on your suggestions. Do I really have to wait until December? Can’t we do favorite things in July this year??? 🙂
Well, crap.
And yes, you have to wait until December. 🙂
