This book singlehandedly made me want to have another baby so I could name her Hadley.
Which my husband has already nixed, so I got lucky that my friend, Chelsea, is having a girl and she’s naming her Hadley. Gah, I just love that name.
The Paris Wifeby Paula McLain is the fictionalized version of Ernest Hemingway’s first wife, Hadley’s, account of their time together. As a reader, you know early on that it will end. And I guess I could have done a quick internet search to find out more, but I wanted the book to tell me the story. I like the story so much.
In the end, when it goes really wrong and later, when Hadley is looking back on her life, there is profound sadness, but such hope at the same time. And while this book is told from the wife’s point of view, Ernest is the center of the storm and it made me all the more curious about that man and his writings. So I’ll probably be picking those up soon.
Read The Paris WifeParis in the 20’s and one of the greatest American writers of all time. And, of course, love. The part that holds it all together. Well, mostly.
