weekend read: Wildflower Hill

We’ve all got family secrets. In Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman there are a lot of them and it’s what makes the book so good and sad at the same time.

Emma was a prima ballerina in London living a life of busyness and pretend relationships until she had a career-ending accident. Depressed and heartbroken, she heads home to visit her parents, a trip she has put off for years. Once home, it is revealed that her grandmother left her something in her will but Emma wasn’t allowed to be told of it until she had retired from dancing. This is surprising because her famous and wealthy grandmother gave away all her money and possessions when she died with no explanation to her family.

As Emma tries to come to terms with why her grandmother would leave her something, she takes possession of the inheritance, a sheep farm, and goes there with plans to clean it out and sell it. But as she works her way through the house, it becomes apparent that her grandmother had a story she wanted to tell Emma. A story of love and loss. A story that teaches Emma some beautiful stories in the process.

I loved reading Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman. It made me want to live on a sheep farm in the Australian back country and sit at my grandparents’ feet to hear all their stories. You’ll enjoy this one, I’m sure.
