I had breakfast with my friend Kristen recently and we got on the topic of living in the moment versus planning ahead to the point where you aren’t paying attention to the now. We both struggle with this, thinking about the next thing or how great life will be when fill-in-the-blank happens instead of being present and enjoying the season we’re in. The future: it’s my favorite thing to think about, but it always makes the presence less appealing.
So I’m trying to slow down and focus on the here and now, seeing what today is instead of next week or next month or next season. This is really hard to do when the internet’s favorite season, fall, is coming up soon. Everyone is talking pumpkin spice crap (gag me) and counting down the moments until they can wear scarves and sweaters.
I get it, I feel the push too.

My favorite season has always been fall; fall holds my birthday, a break from school, my wedding anniversary, and a personal favorite, Halloween. But like someone said on Instagram recently, they’re not wishing for the end of summer because there will never be a time when their kids are this age again.
That realization hit home for me.
I will never have another summer with my three year old and five year old daughters. Next time summer rolls around, they’ll be bigger, more independent, less baby. They’ll need me less. They’ll be busier. I’ll be older and so will they.
So even though I’m wearing a sweater and occasionally dreaming about boots and layers, I try to stop myself before things get too carried away. I don’t want to wish away this time right now. I don’t want to rush it.
Love this look, the lavendar is a great color on you, and the pencil skirt look great as well. I too have a problem with the NOW, as I am usually the planner.

Thanks Jess!
I don’t know if it is my 40th birthday coming up or the ages of my kids, but I have REALLY been feeling this lately. I try to remind myself on almost a daily basis not to rush our lives. People remind you all the time when your kids are little how the “time passes quickly” and you should “enjoy them while they are young.” But I’m actually feeling that crunch even more now that they older. My older daughter is in her last year of Junior High. I don’t want to wish away one single day before she goes to high school!!!
I understand completely! I can’t imagine when my girls get that old and I realize just how few years we have left…it’s overwhelming at times. Praying for your mama-heart, Tricia!
what a great skirt, would love to style that one with several things in my closet!
Thanks Marie, it is a pretty versatile piece!
This is adorable. I have this skirt and I’m always looking for ways to style it! Thanks for the inspiration!

That’s fun! I bought about four different patterns of this skirt because I love it so much. 🙂
So, so, so where I am right now. I feel like my kids are growing so fast. I just want soak up every moment. My boys are 3 and 5, too – great ages that I want to hold on to for as long as possible.
Love this. I feel the same way! Love my kids and I don’t want them to grow up too fast!!!
I really like that sweater!
