2015 is going to be about purpose. Purpose in my speech, purpose in my writing, purpose in how I spend my time, purpose in my relationships. As I strive to live a life of less stuff, less junk, I want to make sure the things I’m allowing in and spending my time doing are for a purpose, for a reason, that is important to me.
So this year, I’m focusing on purpose.
For so long, I’d watch other people pick a word of the year and, while mildly interested in the idea, I never did one for myself. Then last year, I decided on a whim to participate. I knew what my goals for the year were so why not put those goals into focus, why not make it a declaration instead of just a hope sitting inside my head? So I chose run, for many reasons, and went at it full steam. I got to reflect at the end of each month on how things were going, what I struggled with, and what I succeeded in. It helped to keep me focused and to track my progress. I enjoyed having a word of the year more than I ever imagined I would.
And because of that, I’m doing it again. I would love for you to join me in choosing a focus word for the year. You don’t have to start a blog and announce it to the world wide web (although if you want to, I say go for it!), maybe just share it with a few close friends and family members. Maybe share it on Facebook and ask for a few people to join you in a focused year. Your word doesn’t have to be serious and it doesn’t have to be life-changing (but I’m pretty sure it will be…). I saw on Instagram recently that someone picked the word fun for 2015. What a great goal for the year.
2015 will be my year of purpose. A purposeful daughter of Christ, a purposeful wife to Chris, a purposeful mom to Ellie and Harper, a purposeful friend, a purposeful neighbor, a purposeful writer, and a purposeful runner. I’m excited for the journey.
What’s your word?
